The torturous evolution of the short form cultural intelligence scale (SFCQ)

Abstract: In this chapter, we trace the decade long journey that produced the Short Form Cultural Intelligence Scale (SFCQ). Over its history, the development of this instrument involved 20 scholars from 16 different countries. Funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and with the support of both Simon Fraser University, Canada and the University of New South Wales, Australia these scholars confronted and resolved both conceptual and measurement issues to result in a theoretically grounded instrument that is easy to administer and has excellent psychometric properties. By consolidating a report of its history, we seek to promote an understanding of the rigor involved in its development, which should give users confidence in the ability of the SFCQ to assess cultural intelligence as theorized.
