Mixed methods prevalence studies, publishing strategies and reporting in business and management fields

Abstract: The aim of this chapter is to advance the use, implementation and rigor of mixed methods studies in business and management fields. The chapter describes the main characteristics of prevalence studies and systematic methodological reviews on the use of mixed methods research (MMR) conducted in several business and management disciplines over the last decade. These prevalence studies and reviews are relevant for business and management disciplines as they demonstrate the features of articles that use a MMR approach and how MMR can advance topics in these disciplines. Some publishing and reporting strategies for mixed methods studies are also identified that highlight alternative approaches depending on specific outlets (methodological or substantive journals). The chapter contributes to the literature on MMR in business and management by examining reviews on mixed methods that include exemplar studies. These studies can be a useful reference for business and management scholars engaging in MMR or contemplating adopting MMR approaches.
