Chapter 5 in A Research Agenda for Disability and Technology, 2024, pp 107-134 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Despite the progress that has been made in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility, ICT is not totally accessible to all individuals with disabilities. There is a need, therefore, to augment traditional accessibility methods with new approaches. This chapter outlines a proposal for an alternate, supplemental approach to accessibility, where an Info-Bot and an Individual User Interface Generator act as intermediaries between users and interfaces so that the interface adapts to each individual user’s needs. This chapter describes how this approach would work, the potential benefits to users, product designers and governments, and what would be required to make this vision a reality.
