Qualitative methods - understanding the "why" and "how" of entrepreneurship: a review of "In search of creative qualitative methods to capture current entrepreneurship research challenges"

R. Duncan M. Pelly

A chapter in Big Questions and Great Answers in Entrepreneurship Research, 2024, pp 160-162 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This review emphasizes the renewed importance of “In search of creative qualitative methods to capture current entrepreneurship research challenges”. The chapter emphasizes the importance of qualitative methods in understanding the nuances, processes, and antecedents of entrepreneurship. Qualitative methods facilitate knowledge creation by encouraging researchers to become part of the processes they study and co-create insights with practitioners. This co-construction of research encourages entrepreneurship researchers to borrow from other disciplines in lieu of being restricted to mathematical perspectives. The chapter underscores the veracity that qualitative methods permit the reader to become part of the sensemaking process because they leave interpretations open, and the audience is able to create meaning outside of original text.
