Chapter 4 in Big Questions and Great Answers in Entrepreneurship Research, 2024, pp 48-78 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Autoethnography is an embodied methodology that relies on the writer’s experiences to illustrate a phenomenon. Its multidisciplinary roots, with strong evocative and literary facets, make it an ideal tool to comprehend the antecedents of entrepreneurship that are frequently overlooked by more conventional methods. This chapter provides an overview of autoethnography, with descriptions that furnish lucidity into the prosaic struggles faced by entrepreneurs. It illustrates an autoethnographic writing technique via two specific examples for the purpose of painting a picture that highlights dialogues authors may experience as they interact with both the empirical setting and the text. This chapter serves as a guide for prospective autoethnographers as they being their writing journey, and may be of interest to entrepreneurship scholars, autoethnographers, and practicing entrepreneurs who wish to publish their entrepreneurial experiences in academic journals.
