Entrepreneurship as practice: philosophical implications and opportunities

Abstract: This chapter explores how practice theories support researchers in understanding what entrepreneurs do. We do so by considering the collection of related theories, their commonalities and the questions they raise for the future of entrepreneurship research. We explore how practice theories radically alter how researchers look for, explore and understand topics of interest to entrepreneurship to make the unseen and unnoticed visible and observable. In doing so we show how entrepreneurship practices enable richer theorizing about social practices and the spaces in which they occur. We conclude that employing practice theories opens up the potential for new insights in entrepreneurship research and that in this pursuit we may contribute to deepening our understanding of social practices as a whole.
