The economy
.
Chapter 5 in Public Policy in Contentious Times, 2021, pp 70-87 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The central issue in the economy today is the distribution of income. Wealthier people are getting wealthier and the poor remain poor. The issues of policy, other than taxation and the minimum wage, relate to access to good education, keeping college loans from eating up too much of a graduates income, access to capital, small banks and consulting for small business owners, and access to skill enhancing training programs for workers displaced by technology and imports. International trade policy and relations have always had important impacts on the economy, but the Trump administration took an America first approach that left farmers and manufacturers to bear the costs of trade conflict.
