Human rights due diligence

Robert McCorquodale and Daria Davitti

Chapter 8 in Teaching Business and Human Rights, 2023, pp 100-112 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of human rights due diligence (HRDD), followed by a definition of the topic, with a discussion and explanation of the key elements of HRDD and the key differences between business due diligence and HRDD. The chapter then focuses on how to teach HRDD from both a legal perspective and a practice perspective. Different teaching approaches, adaptable to different learning objectives and students’ backgrounds, are discussed, including through an example of a practical innovative exercise.
