Chapter 6 in Rethinking Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, 2025, pp 82-98 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter explores the role of entrepreneurial learning in shaping regional development. While literature increasingly recognizes the importance of knowledge, learning and innovation for regional competitiveness, it often emphasizes geographical proximity and collective learning. This chapter offers a complementary perspective by drawing on entrepreneurial learning theory to better understand learning dynamics within regions. Entrepreneurs, as key regional actors, create, share and apply knowledge through processes of experience, reflection and adaptation. In doing so, they contribute not only to business growth but also to broader regional outcomes. The chapter also highlights the potential of integrating concepts such as social learning and role model theory to explain how entrepreneurial practices foster regional learning. By focusing on the micro-level learning processes of entrepreneurs, the chapter presents an alternative lens through which to view regional learning and development.
