Abstract: Environmental and social accounting can potentially contribute to a just and green community. This may be achieved by reforming accounting to consider how the art of interpretation can connect us with the world. This chapter draws on the work of Donald Davidson, Richard Rorty and Charles Taylor, among others. It aims to extend our understanding of accounting and how we create, nurture and report environmental values to the relevant public. This theoretical journey compares traditional accounting with recent developments in business, environmental and political philosophy.
