Chapter 22 in Research Handbook on Data, Privacy and Competition Law, 2025, pp 511-531 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter explores the intersection of competition law and data protection law in light of the trailblazing rise of the digital economy. It provides a comprehensive overview of their common objectives as well as the points where they interact, which guide how to navigate these complex and often overlapping areas. Against this background, this chapter covers the eye-catching decisions of the prominent competition authorities, which shed light on enforcement around the world. It also addresses emerging issues such as the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence in decision-making and the challenges cross-border data transfers pose.
