Crimmigration

Chapter 15 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Migration and Asylum Law, 2025, pp 89-93 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Crimmigration is the name conventionally given to an academic perspective that has gained impressive traction in law, criminology, and other disciplines over the last fifteen years. Initially presented by the US legal scholar Juliet Stumpf (2006) as a thesis to grasp immigration enforcement changes implemented in the United States in the late 1990s and early 2000s, it has since been adopted by numerous scholars to explore policy and legal arrangements elsewhere. In fact, the crimmigration thesis has been vital in reenergizing scholarly debates on migration control policies in the recent past.
