Extradition
Stefano Maffei
Chapter 27 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Migration and Asylum Law, 2025, pp 154-158 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This entry covers the subject of international extradition, the legal procedure for the surrender of a suspect, accused, or convicted person from one country to another. It discusses the concept of extradition, the sources of law governing the matter, the basic course of an extradition case, and the most commonly invoked grounds of refusal. The subject of extradition is not typically taught as an independent subject and its features overlap with a number of other areas of law, including constitutional law, criminal law, criminal procedure, administrative law, human rights, and the rights of migrants.
