Chapter 13 in How to Manage International Multidisciplinary Research Projects, 2022, pp 175-187 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The European Commission's Directorates-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) jointly coordinated the international multidisciplinary project on Transforming into open, innovative and collaborative governments (TROPICO) described in this case study. The project, which was funded under the Horizon 2020 programme, explored collaborative governance. This case study focusses specifically on the fifth work package, led by the author, which critically analyses how e-participation platforms are organised in several EU members states at national and local levels from a public administration perspective. The case study describes the different stages in the research process, from the application for funding, through the formation of the research team, the development of project design and methods, to the engagement and dissemination strategies. The author offers valuable lessons from her experience to mid-career researchers seeking to build their leadership skills in the management of international multidisciplinary projects.
