Antimicrobial resistance in the real world (AMR)

Abstract: The AMR case study documents the details and dimensions of a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded project for research into antimicrobial resistance in the real world. Antimicrobial resistance has emerged as one of the most challenging health security threats in modern times. The implications of antimicrobial waste within the environment are a vastly under-studied area. The multidisciplinary collaboration between researchers at the University of the West of Scotland and the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay described in this case study was designed to investigate how researchers are tackling the problem of AMR in the environment from antimicrobial manufacturing waste. The case study illustrates how the research team met the funder's requirements by building an international multidisciplinary team to manage the research process, how it dealt with issues that arose, and what lessons it drew from the experience.
