Introduction: is globalization still a measure of these times?
Barrie Axford and
Richard Huggins
A chapter in A Modern Guide to Globalization, 2025, pp 1-34 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The book's substantive introduction sets the tone for the chapters to follow. It rehearses the current and projected state of a globalized world undergoing seismic changes. It asks whether global scholarship is fit for purpose and notes that in the third decade of the twenty-first century we are mightily disquieted by the threat of species doom and only partly reassured by the prospects for redemption. Who will, who can, fashion a politics to make us safe, let alone one that is just? And grand schemes aside, where is the hope that we can even muddle through?
