Regionalism and the infrastructuring of Asia
Colin Turner
Chapter 1 in The Asian Infrastructure System, 2026, pp 1-21 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter sets out the core concepts and themes that will be explored within this book. Initially, the chapter examines the themes that drive infrastructure as a force/strategy for territoriality within states. Moving on from this, the chapter then considers how this pattern of infrastructure development is being shaped by patterns of formal and informal integration across Asia, examining the form and nature of this integration process across the continent, and noting that it tends to be of a looser form than that seen elsewhere in the global political economic system. The chapter concludes with a brief analysis of the themes to be covered in later chapters with regard to infrastructural integration across Asia.
