An assessment of mood and anxiety in university athletes and non-athletes during social mobility restrictions of COVID-19

Abstract: This chapter is based on research that was aimed to describe and correlate the mood and anxiety of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic and compare students who practice and do not practice sports. The cross-sectional non-experimental study examined in this chapter was divided into two parts. In the first study, a total of 821 students participated. In the second, 436 students were included, 218 active and 218 inactive athletes. The results show reliability values. There were no differences according to age, and regarding sex, anxiety was greater in women. The association between the variables was significant in all interactions, except in depression and vigor. A higher score was found in active athletes in anxiety, vigor, depression, tension, and anger. It was concluded that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the mental health of young university students was not significantly affected
