Introduction to Teaching Agritourism
.
Chapter 1 in Teaching Agritourism, 2024, pp 1-16 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This book investigates agritourism and its educational aspects, focusing on adult learning theories to train educators who will assist farmers in integrating tourism and agriculture. It defines agritourism, highlights the advantages of sustainable practices, and discusses the economic potential of small-scale farms. The instructional approach incorporates andragogy (adult learning), which emphasizes self-directed, experiential, and transformative learning processes, allowing students to apply their knowledge practically. By teaching farmers these specialized pedagogies, the book hopes to improve their ability to implement successful agritourism ventures that benefit local economies and promote sustainability.
