Chapter 3 in Teaching Agritourism, 2024, pp 32-48 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter helps future teachers understand the importance of managing visitor expectations to ensure the success of agritourism ventures. The chapter emphasizes the significance of first impressions, such as staff appearance and farm aesthetics, in meeting visitor expectations. It also emphasizes the importance of providing the necessary infrastructure and amenities for a positive experience, such as clean and accessible facilities, clear signage, and secure parking lots. The chapter discusses how to teach the importance of hospitality and customer service in agritourism, arguing for a welcoming environment that makes visitors feel comfortable and valued. This includes ensuring visitors’ safety and comfort, meeting their needs and expectations, and creating a welcoming environment that encourages return visits and positive recommendations.
