Chapter 4 in Migration, Mobility and the Creative Class, 2024, pp 60-95 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Chapter 4 presents an analysis of the migration and occupation trajectories of interviewees born between 1945 and 1965, i.e., the Baby Boomers. We identify themes that characterise these creative workers’ experiences, which include early family experiences, social class, and associated expectations of migration that underpin their migration trajectories, as they do for other groups of workers. It further highlights the role of teachers in migration outcomes. We do not find evidence to support the traditional neoclassical migration theory, nor do we find evidence to support Florida’s claims.
