Conversation with Mary Yoko Brannen
.
Chapter 5 in Key Questions and Inspiring Answers in Cross-Cultural Management, 2024, pp 124-146 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter features an interview with Mary Yoko Brannen, a woman pioneer in the field of cross-cultural management (CCM) research. It delves into Mary Yoko Brannen’s biography, her motivations and aspirations for conducting CCM research, her career as well as her outlook on the future of CCM research. It also sheds light on Mary Yoko Brannen’s most important academic contributions to the field of CCM, which are her research on the understanding of multiculturalism and biculturalism and her concepts of negotiated culture and recontextualization, as well as the role of language and her qualitative ethnographic research approach. Through this exploration, a deeper understanding of the biographies, key concepts, and revolutionary paths of the women pioneers of CCM is fostered, and important interrelationships and implications of biography and research are revealed. Both researchers and practitioners will find it informative. The interview style of the chapter allows the pioneers to express their ideas in their own voice.
