What is a Basic Income?
.
Chapter 2 in A Research Agenda for Basic Income, 2023, pp 11-40 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In order to research a concept, we need a clear and agreed definition of what it is. It is therefore essential to begin a research agenda for Basic Income with discussion of the definition of Basic Income, an exploration of the history of the concept, notes on variants of Basic Income and of alternatives to it, an account of some current research on the definition, and an outline of research that might now be required. We shall find that although there is a certain amount of consensus about the definition of Basic Income, there remains considerable scope for debate, so continuing research and discussion are essential.
