Abstract:
In this chapter, we endeavour to understand the extent to which entrepreneurship is key in promoting women's economic empowerment, and by extension, gender equality in Ghana. Using the TORReS framework, we conceptually analyse existing government policies and the extent to which they mitigate gender inequality. Our analysis indicates that despite the presence of policies that encourage women's entrepreneurship and participation in paid work, as well as advance the general welfare of women, gender inequalities persist. These inequalities exist in work–life balance, business opportunities, accessing resources, and being heard and listened to by society and stakeholders. We posit that entrepreneurship could be foundational for women's economic empowerment if gender-transformative policies are designed and implemented.
