Global law and political economy
John D. Haskell
Chapter 1 in Research Handbook on Law and Political Economy, 2025, pp 2-14 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Since the first edition of this research handbook, ‘law and political economy’ (LPE) has become one of the key conceptual terminologies for progressive law academics to discuss the engagement of law and economic factors. LPE is now a rationale for institutional organisation within the legal academy, a source of philanthropic and state funding, occasional policy influence, and a growing canon of literature. The handbook is renamed to reflect this movement and is meant as a snapshot of the scene today, and this chapter lays out some of the claims to knowledge production and tensions, both cultural and intellectual, that animate the literature.
