Reflexivity in social research
Nicole Brown
Chapter 37 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Research Methods in the Social Sciences, 2026, pp 265-269 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Reflexivity is generally described as a turning back on yourself. For many researchers, the concept remains elusive, however. This contribution seeks to outline the historical development of reflexivity to offer an insight into how reflexivity within social research may be seen as a continuum, and how reflexivity can then be “done” in practice.
