Chapter 42 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Research Methods in the Social Sciences, 2026, pp 302-308 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This entry provides an international perspective on the variety of methods that segregation research has taken on different geographical contexts by focusing on ecological studies in the US and the new elements that have been introduced by critical approaches in Europe, paying attention to the effects of changes in social stratification and welfare systems. The review highlights themes of contemporary global interest and the development of novel methodologies to the study of neighborhood effects, gentrification, school segregation, forced migration, sustainable development and micro-segregation in cities.
