Resilient city planning and practices in China

Abstract: Building ecological civilization and realizing the harmonious coexistence between the human and nature is an essential issue for various countries. However, with the agglomeration of socio-economic activities, the risks faced by the urban system are increasing. How to improve the capacity of urban systems to cope with disasters is currently a hot topic. As the central goal and concrete embodiment of urban sustainability, resilience offers an innovative way to solve various economic, social and environmental problems that hinder urban sustainability. Accelerating the development of urban resilience is a significant breakthrough in promoting the construction of eco-civilization, reducing urban risks and improving urban liveability. This chapter reviews the contexts and perspectives of resilient urban policy changes and proposes the approach of resilient city planning.
