Dialogue 6 Time before time
.
Chapter 6 in Socratic Voices, 2023, pp 93-104 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Desiring reconciliation - on what is it based? Not (solely) on economic interdependence, mental hygiene, or moral heroism. Maybe it should be understood as ‘a longing for inconsolability’, i.e. as the ultimate form grieving can take. Grieving can be sustained only against a backdrop of a surrounding world of which one is a part and that, yet, seems to have remained unaffected by one’s loss. Addressing the perpetrator (again) is the ultimate form of acknowledging this backdrop and making space for one’s grief.
