Universal Declaration of Animal Rights
Jessica A. Chapman
Chapter 104 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Animal Law, 2025, pp 397-400 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights exists to protect animals of all species and geographies and to redefine human relationships with animals. UNESCO read the Declaration in 1978, but it has undergone new iterations since then. Despite its significance in elevating the rights and protections of animals in an anthropogenic world, the Declaration is symbolic only and not legally binding.
