Wildlife hunting

Chapter 113 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Animal Law, 2025, pp 429-431 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
While several countries have toughened hunting regulations in an effort to better protect vanishing species, the US continues to be among the world's leaders in terms of the number of animals hunted each year. Meanwhile, illegal and trophy hunting, or hunting for sport in which parts of the hunted wild animals are kept and displayed as trophies, is becoming a significant threat to biodiversity and public health. Still, there are countries and private entities taking steps to respond to public pressure by banning certain types of hunting and the transport of products associated with it.
