Security implications of conflicts, crises, and disasters in the international energy industry: legal and policy considerations
Tade Oyewunmi
Chapter 12 in Research Handbook on Disasters and International Law, 2024, pp 229-251 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter examines how international conflicts, crises, and disasters impact energy security. It argues that, when conflicts involving major disagreements or disputes regarding opposing ideas, interests, or policies, are unresolved, it may escalate into a crisis. Given the international and increasingly interconnected nature of energy networks and markets, it is essential to maintain the channels of coordination and collaboration between relevant operators and institutions at the appropriate national and multinational levels to safeguard energy security locally and transnationally.
