Introduction to University Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
.
Chapter 1 in University Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, 2024, pp 1-12 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The aim of the chapter it to introduce the scope of the book, position it within the pertinent literatures of academic entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and econo mic geography, and offer an outline of individual chapters and the direction they take. In particular, the chapter engages with the broad entrepreneurial ecosystems literature to explain the importance of studying university entrepreneurial ecosystems and why its focus on academic spinouts, networks and geography makes this book a unique and comprehensive contribution. The chapter highlights the conceptual issues, predominantly around limited spatial and network understanding of the ecosystems, and how this book can assist in resolving them across the remaining nine chapters. The chapter concludes with research questions that drive the book’s theoretical and empirical narrative.
