Abstract: The aim of this chapter is to explore the possibility of achieving a fair and just universal access to energy services through the concept of solidarity. It focuses on sub-Saharan Africa and examines how the notion of solidarity may help drive the global challenge towards ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all as envisaged in goal seven of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It examines the essential role of access to energy services in human development, particularly, in the realization of other fundamental human rights such as right to health, education and food in modern societies. It further throws more light on the complexities of energy accessibility and justices within the SDG7 framework from the sub-Saharan Africa perspective.
