Linda M. Lobao () and

Chapter 1 in Rethinking Spatial Inequality, 2025, pp 1-25 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an overview of the meaning and significance of spatial inequality, how its study evolved historically in the social sciences, and how research has grown exponentially. It discusses the purpose of the book and why it is timely. We outline our analytical approach to “rethinking” spatial inequality and identify the scope of material covered. An overview of each chapter is presented.
