Abstract: This chapter surveys the financial integration of banks. It provides an overview of this integration, looking particularly at the euro area. The chapter proceeds to assess the impacts of financial integration on various market outcomes including bank efficiency and financial fragility. It also discusses resource allocation and welfare aspects and concludes by pointing to directions for further research.
