Interpreting disability: epistemological insights and methodological strategies
Jacqueline Low
Chapter 7 in Handbook of Interpretive Research Methods in the Social Sciences, 2025, pp 108-123 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The focus of this chapter is an analysis of the use of interpretivism within disability studies. In her discussion, the author includes how disability scholars understand and operationalize the interpretive methods of data collection and analysis they use in their research. In doing so, she highlights the efficacy of interpretive theory and methods for understanding the lived experience of disability. The chapter concludes by addressing the necessity of contextualizing the findings from such studies of disability.
