Rethinking sport and intellectual inspiration with Jens Sejer Andersen
Elizabeth C.J. Pike ()
Chapter 12 in Rethinking Sport and Society, 2025, pp 122-134 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
While many chapters in this book focus on the sporting ecosystem itself, in this chapter we consider the relationship between sport and other forms of popular culture, which might inform a radical rethinking of sport, particularly when there are genuine opportunities for freedom of expression. Jens Sejer Andersen speaks to the significance of critical investigative journalism, which has challenged many of the traditional ways of thinking about sports, contrasts the commercial and communitarian models of sport, and argues that sporting autonomy needs to be balanced with freedom.
