Rethinking sport and the athlete voice with Romio Goliath and Arsen Julfalakyan
Elizabeth C.J. Pike ()
Chapter 13 in Rethinking Sport and Society, 2025, pp 135-146 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The final thematic chapter of this book presents a rethinking of sport and society informed by the athlete's voice. Key points of discussion include the progress that has been made, but also the work that needs to be done, to ensure that athletes are central to decision-making and the changes necessary for sport to become a more equitable and safe space for all participants. Current areas of concern relate to the impact of geopolitics on sport, the rapid changes continuing to impact sport following the Covid-19 pandemic, and ongoing inequalities in access to sporting opportunities for different communities and in different regions of the world.
