Rethinking sport, scale and social impact with Ollie Dudfield
Elizabeth C.J. Pike ()
Chapter 7 in Rethinking Sport and Society, 2025, pp 68-78 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
A key challenge in a rethinking of sport and society is how to increase the beneficial opportunities and experiences of sport in a sustainable way that does not create new challenges. Ollie Dudfield shares his experiences working across all levels of sport, which have informed his ideas for increasing the social benefits and impact of sports in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and drawing on the opportunities provided as much of the world experiences the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Scaling up sport in this way is not without its challenges, not least ensuring that no one is left behind, and Dudfield outlines the importance of dispersed power within the sporting ecosystem, the importance of systems thinking, and the crucial role of civic society.
