Rethinking sport and accountability with Diana Chavez

Elizabeth C.J. Pike ()

Chapter 9 in Rethinking Sport and Society, 2025, pp 93-101 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The high profile of many elite sports, as well as the increased attention to the benefits of sports at a grassroots level, has led many companies to invest in sports. This brings numerous advantages to the recipients of this investment, as well as some potential challenges. Diana Chavez, an expert in international corporate relations, outlines the framework for responsible corporate investment, which focuses on environmental, social and governance dimensions. She provides examples of best practices, while reflecting on the urgency of a genuine rethinking of sport for the benefit of society, locating this in the significant positive role that businesses might play in contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
