Chapter 15 in Research Handbook on Air Transport Leadership and Governance, 2025, pp 235-256 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
We live in an age of disruption, with unpredictable developments requiring prompt and accurate responses. Although change has been an inevitable phenomenon throughout history, the speed of change in the last few decades has become more and more challenging to manage. Besides, change has become nonlinear with the dizzying developments in science and technology. Climate change, COVID-19, global economic and political crises, and social and cultural transformations have a global impact due to the increasing connectivity of societies. Airports have traditionally been seen as classic examples of public management and have undergone a transformation with private sector participation in the last few decades. With the emerging challenges and opportunities, a new, sustainable airport governance model is required to adapt to the age of disruption.
