The Chinese strategic mind at work: the case of Huawei

.

Chapter 6 in The Chinese Strategic Mind, 2024, pp 164-203 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter delves into the diverse strategic factors that have underpinned Huawei’s achievements. What sets Huawei apart from other global companies is its approach to selecting, developing, and integrating technologies into its overarching strategies. The founder’s strategic vision has been shaped by Chinese tradition, particularly Mao Zedong’s ideology. The company’s notable resilience, comprehensive approach, agility, and strategic manoeuvres have enabled it to surmount tremendous challenges posed by US sanctions. This chapter also considers the strategic implications for Western companies.
