Dealing with crisis: the Japanese experience and beyond
J. Babb and
Takashi Iida
Chapter 1 in Dealing with Crisis, 2023, pp 1-8 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an overview to the chapters by teasing out the key themes drawn from the discussion in the volume. The approach of the authors overall tends to be institutionalist and strong on historical precedent but also provides guidance for policy makers. The introduction provides essential background to key events and concepts that may not be familiar to non-Japanese. Most chapters do not focus solely on Japan because they are comparative in scope. This introduction to the book ends with a short case study of the COVID-19 crisis to put the research of the book into perspective.
