Introduction on securities
.
Chapter 15 in EU Banking and Financial Regulation, 2024, pp 166-169 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In the past few decades, the European corporate sector has shifted away from its traditional reliance on bank-based financing towards greater use of the securities markets, and EU regulation has played a significant role in the development of securities market activity within the EU. The EU’s agenda for securities regulation has first and foremost been concerned with the task of dismantling barriers for doing business and cross-border investments. It has done so mainly by adopting common regulatory requirements which aim at ensuring high-quality protection for investors and shareholders.
