Chapter 24 in EU Banking and Financial Regulation, 2024, pp 259-274 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Regulation 596/2014 of 16 April 2014 on market abuse (MAR) and the Directive 2014/57/EU of 16 April 2014 on criminal sanctions for market abuse (MAD II) were introduced in the EU legal framework to guarantee the integrity of European financial markets and increase investor confidence. MAR aims to ensure that the EU legislation keeps pace with market developments to combat market abuse on financial markets. MAD II introduces a minimum common set of criminal sanctions regarding market abuse.
