Money Market Funds (MMF) Regulation
.
Chapter 42 in EU Banking and Financial Regulation, 2024, pp 433-440 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Regulation no 2017/1131 (the MMF Regulation) on money market funds aims to lay down a common framework for the operation of money market funds (MMFs) to improve short-term financing for financial institution, corporations and governments, and to reduce the risk of a sudden large-scale fund redemption. The MMF Regulation provides for a special and mandatory authorisation as an MMF for all UCITS and AIF that invest in short-term financial assets and aim to offer returns in line with money market rates and/or preserve the value of the investment. The Regulation provides common rules applicable to those MMFs in addition to the UCITS and AIFMD rules.
