Frugal innovation as environmental innovation: analytical frame and diffusion factors

.

Chapter 4 in The Economics of Frugal Innovation, 2023, pp 52-71 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: In this chapter, we contribute to the literature on frugal innovation in two directions. We consider FI as an environmental innovation by defining, considering, and drawing the consequences of the economic impact of the environmental side of FI. In this line we suggest a framework accounting for how frugal innovation contributes to environmental sustainability. Secondly, we set out the factors driving the implementation of FI, and point to barriers to its diffusion.
