Abstract:
This chapter examines the emergence and consolidation of the regulatory state, tracing its origins from the early American experience to its global diffusion across sectors and countries. It highlights how the regulatory state has continuously evolved, expanding its reach from economic regulation to encompass new social and environmental issues, as well as those related to digitalization.
