Sumaia A. Al-Kohlani
Chapter 10 in Philanthropy in the Muslim World, 2023, pp 156-170 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The chapter starts by providing an introduction to the Yemeni communities, particularly the Muslim community. Then, discusses where Islam stands from Philanthropy and how governments vary in their interpretation of the state’s role in collecting and/or distributing Philanthropy. It focuses on the Yemeni philanthropy institutional system and the level of wealth and its effect on philanthropy. The chapter also examines the role of the Yemeni civil society sector and its relationship with the government. The chapter ends with a brief summary of the restrained obstacle Philanthropy faces in Yemen and a recommendation for some future studies.
